Buffett declared that he would donate more than 80 percent to charitable foundations. In 2020, he increased that amount to 99 percent. The foundation that received the most money was the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation--created by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his then wife Melinda. The foundation was concentrated on global issues such as health and education. Bill and Buffett kept a close friendship since the early 1990s. The three Buffett children, as well as the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his wife) were among the organizations that received donations. They were focused on the rights of women's reproductive health, provided college scholarships, and additional charities. In the year 2010, Buffett and Gates created the Giving Pledge. This pledge invited other wealthy individuals to give a large portion of their fortunes to charitable organizations.
